Prius is Crashing at Highway Speeds
Actually, its the software that's crashing, not the cars, but we scared you, didn't we? According to a WSJ report, some 2004 and 2005 Priuses—Priusii?—are failing at high speeds due to a system error causing stalling and other nastiness. Toyota spokesman Sam Butto told the newspaper the auto manufacturer identified a "programming error" in the computer systems of 23,900 Prius cars last year and sent owners a service notice advising them to bring the cars into dealers for an hour-long software upgrade. Toyota Recalling Prius to Remove Easter Eggs
TOKYO, Japan - Toyota is recalling 160,000 of its popular Prius hybrid cars because of what the company initially called "an electrical problem that could cause the engine to stall." But in a subsequent announcement, Toyota president Fujio Cho was more forthcoming, saying, "It is our duty to admit to our consumers that non-malicious, but potentially inconvenient, computer code was introduced into the Prius sub-system. These so-called Easter Eggs are not truly dangerous, but we do not wish to dishonor our loyal customers by leaving them in place. This recall will correct the offending code." The recall work can be performed by any Toyota dealer free of charge.


Hitachi Prius series includes DH75N desktop with HDMI out
Hitachi has rolled out a series of desktop and laptops under the Prius brand. Most include at least some mediafeatures (though all come bundled with XP Home), but the top-of-the-line model, the Prius Desk DH75N, looks like theclear winner, with a digital tuner and HDMI output to pump HD video straight to a compatible TV. These are Japan-onlymodels for now, and from the specs, it looks like the DH75N doesn’t include HDCP hardware DRM, though we somehowimagine that a U.S. model would (Hitachi has previously hsipped HDCP-compatible displays in the U.S.).
